Description

The Diploma in Information Technology program is designed to develop specific skills and knowledge required by a computer or IT technician, both in a support and in a development role in diverse settings. The program aims to develop individuals who can integrate and critically understand the current and relevant issues in the IT industry, and assume technical leadership roles in their areas of work to enhance optimal utilization of IT solutions.

Target Group: The target audience for this program is people who are in their early stages of pursuing a career in IT. These include new entrants from secondary schools, and those with lower level IT who might already be employed in private businesses, government, not-for profit and related organizations.

Learning Outcome of the Qualification

• Demonstrate understanding of information technology principles in solving real world business problems.
• Demonstrate understanding of computer network requirements and provide solutions to business needs.
• Design and develop object-oriented programmes to address loosely defined problems in software engineering and creative publication of web development
• Demonstrate skills competencies in database design and software development in information technology to solve business problems.
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of concepts and technologies used to establish and maintain network security and computer architecture design
• Understand the project management techniques, tools and methods of systems analysis and design in a business environment
• Demonstrate knowledge in data analytics, computer mathematics and its algorithm in solving real-time solutions
• Apply knowledge and skills in integrating classroom theory and workplace practice

Minimum requirements

The normal entry requirement into the qualification shall be:
• NCQF Level IV Certificate.
• There will be admission with provisions through CAT and National RPL Policies.

Summative assessment

Summative assessment based on learning outcomes leading to the award of the qualification will be done by means of a written examination (of at least 3 hours) at the end of every module (per module) contributing 60% of the overall mark.
